MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — The Middletown City School District Board of Education on July 31 honored longtime employee Howard Avery and approved the appointment of Norm O'Connell to a central administration role.
During the board’s “spotlight on excellence,” speakers from Parks & Recreation and the Middletown chief of police praised Avery’s long service, describing his work in custodial, buildings and grounds, and later with Parks & Recreation dating back to the mid-1970s. The board presented Avery with a certificate of appreciation signed by the superintendent and board president; meeting participants noted Avery had previously been given a key to the city.
The board also confirmed the appointment of Norm O'Connell (also referred to in the transcript as Norv/Norbert O'Connell) to the position of Administrator of District Resources and Operations. O'Connell, who the board said is transitioning from a high-school role, addressed the board: "I am honored, really truly honored...This job is aligned to a mission and a vision that's near and dear to me."
