MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — The Middletown City School District Board of Education on July 31 approved routine personnel and financial items, a slate of construction change orders for the Twin Towers alteration project and the districtwide safety plan for the 2025–26 school year.
Board members voted unanimously on a package of personnel actions that included administrative appointments and instructional hires. The board also approved Non-Instructional Personnel Memorandum 3C and Special Services Memorandum 3E after brief discussion; Mister Perino noted he reviews IEPs and praised improvements in the special education program.
Mr. Bartlett presented eight change orders related to the Twin Towers project. According to his summary, the items included installing high-performance butterfly valves to improve geothermal flow and isolation capabilities; adding fire dampers where ductwork passes through fire-rated walls and shafts; furnishing FRP door framing to match new finishes; providing a concrete infill for recessed flooring and mechanical-room areas; installing electrical raceways, sleeves and stubs for clocks, speakers, data drops, card readers and access points; an electrical contract credit to close out work at Presidential Park; and two plumbing change orders to reroute domestic water supply lines in specified areas. The board approved all eight change orders in a single motion.
Vice President Romero moved and the board approved the districtwide safety plan for the 2025–26 school year. Board members thanked staff for preparing summary pages that distill the plan’s updates and noted the full plan exceeds 200 pages.
All motions reported during the meeting that included tallies were recorded as passing on unanimous votes (6–0 where recorded). The board also amended its 2025–26 meeting calendar to move the October meeting from Thursday, Oct. 20 to Tuesday, Oct. 21 because members will attend the New York State School Boards Conference.
The board did not receive any public comments at the meeting and adjourned after confirming committee and conference schedules.
