The Environmental Advisory Committee recommended a SEQRA negative declaration for proposed equipment replacements and additions on an existing 145-foot telecommunications tower at 93 Maryvale, and asked that structural documentation be provided as the application proceeds to the town board.
The application proposes replacing certain antennae and removing some older equipment while adding two additional mounts and a new equipment arm on the existing structure. Committee members agreed the site’s environmental impacts appear limited because the pole and many mounts already exist, but flagged structural integrity as the primary concern.
One committee member said, “My biggest concern is just the structural integrity of the pole and whether or not it can handle the weight,” and the group requested structural-engineering documentation before any final town-board action. Another member noted that radio-frequency and some environmental issues are subject to federal oversight, saying it is the Federal Communications Commission that has existing regulatory authority for RF exposure and related evaluations.
The committee recommended a negative declaration under SEQRA and will require structural review and any additional documentation when the applicant returns for building or structural approvals.
