He also said he learned of an email he attributes to "Tony McDaniel" and Dr. Donald Martin that was sent to his sorority, and said the NAACP president had been contacted by Commissioner McDaniel with concerns about safety. Shavers said no law enforcement was contacted regarding those matters.
Turning to public‑safety and operations, Shavers told the board that first responders needed better support during recent snow and ice, recommending provision of snow tires for emergency vehicles and hotel accommodations for staff at the detention center, EMS and fire who face unsafe travel. He said the county should prioritize community needs over internal disputes and requested roughly $2,000,000 to purchase updated metal detectors that he said require less manpower to operate. "There are more pressing matters in this community that could have warranted your attention," he said.
Shavers framed the remarks as both criticism and suggestions for change; the board did not record a response from the commissioners during the public‑comment period. The statements are allegations by a public commenter and were not corroborated in the meeting record.
