Forsyth County appropriates $115,520 in adoption‑promotion funds to Department of Social Services

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved an amendment to the FY26 budget ordinance to appropriate $115,520.12 in Adoption Promotion Program incentive funds to the Forsyth County Department of Social Services.
County staff said the funds come from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Social Services, and are intended to enhance and expand adoption programs based on the number of finalized adoptions in the fiscal year. The county manager introduced the item and said the purpose is to support recruitment and promotion activities.
Commissioner Wilson asked whether there were problems with delays, shortages of foster‑home placements, pre‑adoption assessments or related issues. County Manager Denise Price answered that "there is absolutely a shortage of foster homes" and that staff are actively recruiting adoptive families; she encouraged interested listeners to contact social services for assistance through the process.
A motion to approve the appropriation was made, seconded and approved by roll call.
