Hassan Dabat Jaha, a representative of Genoptic, said a July 2023 state law allows municipalities to install automated speed enforcement at school zones and described the program’s operating rules: violations occur at 11 mph over the posted school‑zone speed (for example, at or above 31 mph where the limit is 20 mph); enforcement windows are 30 minutes before school, during school hours, and 30 minutes after dismissal; and signage showing the hours will be posted (Wellington plans two signs per zone for visibility).
