At its regular meeting the Terrebonne Parish Council adopted multiple ordinances and ratified appointments across several agenda items.
The council approved an ordinance amending the 2026 operating budget to add $10,000 for Shady Oaks Park (motion by Carl Harding; vote 7-0) and added $27,763 for civic center upgrades (vote 7-0). It authorized the parish president to execute an act of donation to accept land on Veret Street, declared adjudicated property (Bayou Du Large, parcel 40578) surplus, and adopted other surplus-property and permit-fee-exemption ordinances after public calls and recorded votes. The council enacted an exemption to the $500 permit deposit fee for public property use permits (vote recorded 6-0) and amended accessory-structure regulations in the parish code (vote 7-0).
On personnel and appointments, Parish President Jason W. Basra asked the council to ratify his recommendation of Michelle L. Veil as parish attorney and a set of assistant parish attorneys; the council ratified the appointments (vote 7-0). The council ratified Thomas Fungi’s appointment to the Port Commission and appointed April Wallace to Recreation District No. 11.
The council also approved motions to hold elections in Fire Protection Districts Nos. 5, 6 and 10 on June 27, 2026 to authorize continuation or renewal of special taxes. Committee reports were accepted and several public hearings were scheduled on forthcoming budget and capital items, including a notice involving Series 2025 sales tax bonds (listed amount $25,000,964.89) and cooperative endeavors tied to FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program projects.
Procedural votes were taken by voice and recorded by voting-machine tallies where entered in the record; several motions were unanimous.
