Moroni City Council authorized hiring a contractor to maintain the city cemetery after members cited rising repair bills and the workload for city staff.
Mayor reported repair costs had risen (noting a $3,000 repair bill last year for headstone work) and recommended engaging a contractor who previously maintained the cemetery at an estimated $350 per week for roughly a five- to six-month season. Councilors discussed hours required (an estimated 10-hour work day on some days), fuel costs and the division of funding across current and next year’s budgets.
Councilor Green moved to authorize the hire and to work the payment through the budget; Bagley seconded and members voted in favor. Staff will include the expense in budget documents and return with finalized contract terms.
