The evaluation and vote were taken after the board convened in closed session under the Texas Open Meetings Act, citing Texas Government Code section 551.001 for authority to discuss agenda items in private. The board recessed into closed session at 6:07 p.m. and reconvened at 8:07 p.m.
Following the vote, trustees used the public meeting record to commend the superintendent and district staff. Chair Charlie Bustillos thanked Dr. Dela Torre for "bringing together this district" and for 12 years of service, saying the superintendent has "put kids first." Trustee Mike Dwyer praised the superintendent's leadership and noted the short average tenure of superintendents in Texas, saying "the life expectancy of a superintendent in the state of Texas is 3 years." Other trustees credited principals, teachers and support staff for maintaining high performance and community engagement.
No member of the public challenged the evaluation or raised objections during the meeting. The item recorded a formal motion, a second, and a roll-call tally announced as six in favor and none opposed.
A motion to adjourn followed and the board closed the meeting.
