Amanda Perry, the Human Resource Director for the Town of Nantucket, outlined the department’s responsibilities, staff size and office location in an introductory Government 101 video.
Perry said the HR office is based in the Town Hall Building at 16 Broad Street and that the department has four full-time employees. "I've been working with the town since 2013," she said, framing her remarks with nearly a decade of experience.
The department oversees personnel policy administration, employee recruitment, retention and onboarding, labor relations, employee benefits and leave administration, and succession planning for senior-level positions, Perry said. "Some of the operations undertaken by human resources are essential to the operations of the town, but are not visible to the public," she added.
Perry described the range of interactions handled by HR: members of the public applying for town jobs; current employees changing status; individuals applying for benefits or leave; and retirees seeking assistance. She also noted HR manages responses to work-related injuries and handles labor-relations matters.
On labor relations, Perry said the town has collective bargaining agreements with nine unions and that HR administers benefits and leave programs for those employees.
The remarks were presented as a recorded segment in the town’s Government 101 video series. Perry closed by thanking viewers for watching the introduction to the HR department.
The video did not include any formal motions, votes, or policy changes; it served as an informational overview of HR functions and contact points.
