Board hears facilities, gym-floor and safety updates; plans reunification drill

District facilities and operations staff updated the board on recent winter response work, building maintenance and safety inspections. Staff said custodial crews stripped heavy wax and reapplied finish in science rooms at Northlake Middle School and thanked the maintenance team for extended work during frigid conditions.

At MacArthur, presenters described an area of moisture under the gym floor. A plumbing inspection found no leaking drains; administrators are convening contractors involved in the original floor and concrete foundation work to determine whether moisture is migrating from the slab or other sources. Staff said the problem may become a larger summer project if additional remediation is required.

Administration also reported on a recent West 40 life-safety inspection; overall building condition was praised and one building had zero violations. The board approved consent for a district reunification drill to be conducted during Institute Day and consented to a confidential agreement naming a local partner site as an evacuation/reunification location. Board members asked that the agreement remain confidential in open session to avoid disclosing sensitive security information.

Separately, the district announced that nursing positions are fully staffed, threat-assessment teams are being trained, and Officer Mastrino will serve as the district police liaison for threat assessment work. The board thanked maintenance and safety teams for their work during the winter weather event.

Administrators said staff will return with further details on the gym-floor investigation and a work plan if a summer remediation project is required.
