Board approves EMS clinical agreement and a fire grant; rescue unit purchase set for second reading

Chief Royce Turner requested approval to enter a clinical agreement with Greene County Fire Department to provide clinical support for EMS recruit certification in the current recruit class; commissioners moved to discuss and then approved the agreement.
Chief Turner also presented a Georgia fire tax grant (maximum $25,000 with a 10% match, $2,500) earmarked to support personal protective equipment and other needs; commissioners approved acceptance of the grant and noted the match was already budgeted.
Separately, Newton County Fire Service requested approval to proceed with purchase of a replacement rescue unit to replace a decommissioned 1998 model. Staff said the procurement followed procurement rules and this item was the first reading; commissioners discussed vendor selection (the middle bid was chosen for reliability and fit reasons) and noted a required second reading before final award.
The EMS clinical agreement and the fire grant were approved at the meeting; the rescue unit purchase will return for a second reading.
