The Eureka City Council on July 15 adopted the city’s 2025 Communications Plan, which centralizes web content, standardizes social-media practice and branding, and positions the municipal website as the primary information hub.
Economic development staff explained the rationale for consolidation, noting the city currently operates multiple Facebook pages that fragment messaging. The plan identifies five key audiences (residents, businesses, visitors, media and internal stakeholders), commits to ADA-considerate captions and bilingual materials, and outlines metrics for measuring digital engagement and tourism impact.
Staff said they will consolidate pages where appropriate, maintain department-specific accounts when necessary (for example, the police department and some attractions), hire a communications project manager and relaunch visiteureka.com with expanded itineraries, blogs and content to support local businesses. The plan also calls for crisis-communication flowcharts and coordination with EPD and Humboldt Bay Fire for emergencies.
Council members supported the approach and emphasized outreach to under‑represented communities and to departments that handle infrastructure work such as utilities. The motion to adopt the plan carried by recorded vote.
