At the Jan. 27 Twinsburg City Council meeting, Parks & Recreation assistant director Desmond Wade delivered his first council report and said the department is expanding access and programming.
Wade said the fitness center has opened three recent Sundays and recorded roughly 175, 168 and more than 200 scanned entries on those days. He said the department has opened Sundays to nonresidents to increase revenue and participation, extended after-hours access providing 24/7 availability in some areas, and plans capital improvements and program expansion. Wade also previewed the Rock The Park concert lineup, naming a Michael Jackson tribute and other acts, and said an aquatics manager (Kevin) has joined the team to support summer operations.
Separately, Jonah Pischette, speaking for the Environmental Commission, announced the commission's first 2026 meeting (Tues. at 7 p.m.), the launch of a Good Neighbor Award with nominations going live in February, and plans for an Earth Day recycling/RV event. Pischette said he would email council when nomination materials are available.
Council members praised the improved communication from Parks & Rec and expressed support for expanded programming and new staff. Council encouraged continued publicity to improve attendance at seminars and events.
