Committee hears bill to rename and expand poverty reduction oversight task force

The bill renames the group to the Legislative Executive Economic Justice and Well-Being Task Force, expands voting membership to add the Department of Revenue, the Health Care Authority, and the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board, and modifies duties to align with the state's 10-year plan to dismantle poverty.
Rep. Mia Gregersen (33rd Legislative District), sponsor, told the committee the changes reflect the task force's evolution and ongoing bipartisan work. She said expanding voting membership brings previously nonvoting members into decision roles to streamline executive and legislative coordination.
Marcy Bowers of the Statewide Poverty Action Network and Laurie Finkst of DSHS spoke in support, saying the statutory updates reflect current practice and help continue collaborative work across agencies, tribal governments and community partners. The staff presentation indicated the bill had no fiscal impact as drafted.
The committee paused further action and did not take a final vote during the hearing.
