The Somers Point City Council voted to adopt a resolution authorizing Colliers Engineering Incorporated and other municipal professionals to prepare an amended redevelopment plan and amended redevelopment agreement for the 90 Broadway project. Council described the action as authorization to begin the amendment process; project presentations and public hearings will follow when the amendment is complete.
During the public portion a resident, John Helbig, asked if the amendment would allow affordable housing obligations to be produced off‑site; the council solicitor and others explained the resolution enables the planner to begin modifying the redevelopment plan and that detailed proposals and public presentations by the applicant will come later. The solicitor said that under the proposed amendment affordable units tied to the 90 Broadway obligation would be produced at a different property on Cleveland Avenue and that the off‑site unit would be a six‑bedroom group home that would count toward the developer’s affordable‑housing obligation.
Resolution Number 55 was adopted without a roll‑call challenge. Council members noted that after amendment work is complete the developer and planner will return for formal presentations and additional public review.
