Somers Point council appoints John 'Jack' Shields to Ward 2

Councilmembers conducted a straw poll of three candidates recommended by the municipal Republican chair (Charles Haberkorn). The informal straw poll resulted in a 3‑3 split among councilmembers. After discussion and a brief interchange about who would break the tie, council proceeded to open the public portion on the resolution, closed it with no speakers and took the formal roll‑call vote to adopt Resolution 44.
Following adoption, Shields came forward and was sworn in. Council thanked the new member and noted he may need to resign from other positions he currently holds; the mayor said staff would follow up about reassigning or filling those roles.
The appointment fills the Ward 2 seat in Somers Point and takes effect immediately following the oath. The council moved on to other agenda business after the swearing‑in.
