Senate Bill 6,058 would give the Department of Labor & Industries discretion to determine whether to accept and investigate certain wage complaints rather than requiring an investigation in all filed cases. Committee staff explained that, if the department accepts a complaint, it must issue either a citation or a determination of compliance within 60 days, subject to extensions for good cause with advance written notice explaining the reason and duration.
Marlon Yanez, staff presenting the bill, said the measure is intended to help L&I prioritize cases and operate within available resources.
