Select Board approves appointments, policy packet and a scout fundraising permit

At its Jan. 27 meeting the Charlton Select Board approved the minutes, appointed Arlene Murray to the Council on Aging, named members to a bylaw review committee, accepted the 2025 town report, approved several municipal policies, and authorized a fundraising toll road for local scouts.
The Charlton Select Board cleared routine business at its Jan. 27 meeting, voting to approve minutes, make appointments and adopt a packet of municipal policies.
The board approved the minutes of the Jan. 13 meeting (one abstention was recorded on the minutes due to a health issue). Town staff recommended appointing Arlene Murray to the Council on Aging, with a term expiring 06/30/2028; the board moved, seconded and approved the appointment. The board also approved members and alternates for a bylaw review committee as recommended by staff.
Andrew (town staff) presented the board’s 2025 town report and asked members to review and approve it; the board voted to accept the report as written. Andrew also presented a policy packet including a procurement policy, an amendment to the disposition of surplus items policy, disposition of real estate and acquisition-of-real-estate policies; the board moved to approve the policies as presented and they passed.
The board approved a Friends of Scout Troop 338 request to hold a fundraising toll road near Main Street and Masonic Home Road on a weekend in February, subject to safety measures including high-visibility vests, traffic cones placed at specified distances, and warning signage; Board of Health and police raised no objections.
The meeting concluded with a town administrative update praising DPW and public safety for storm response and confirmation of the next Select Board meeting on 02/10/2026 at 6:30 p.m.
