County honors junior livestock contestants, veterans cemetery and accepts donation for inclusive playground

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The commissioner's court opened its Jan. 28 meeting with ceremonial recognitions and a donation acceptance.
The court read a resolution recognizing the 2026 Nueces County Junior Livestock Show contestants and named Chloe Delgado as the 2026 queen. Several commissioners and members of the queen's committee praised the contestants and thanked families and volunteers for their participation.
Later in the meeting, Dr. John Kelly, director of the Texas State Veterans Cemetery Division, announced the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery achieved a 99.28% customer satisfaction rating in the National Cemetery Administration survey and presented recognition signed by a state commissioner (SEG 436–441). "Nueces County is recognized for their dedication and unparalleled service to our cherished veterans and their families," Kelly said.
The court also acknowledged receipt of a $40,328.19 donation from the Dearly Day Foundation toward an all-inclusive playground at Century Park and accepted the contribution. Terry Mills of the Dearly Day Foundation described the project's phases and invited commissioners to a planned ribbon-cutting in late February.
The court paused for photos and brief remarks before continuing with the day's business.
