Pollinator corridor expands; commission readies 300 plant kits and public outreach

"I think 300 was the goal that we were shooting for," a member said; another member described Botanical Gardens’ 550-kit target.
Each kit will include about 15 plants selected for sun or shade conditions, a yard sign to promote the corridor, and an educational packet with planting and care instructions. Registration will be an online form open roughly two to three weeks, with winners selected by randomized lottery; pickup dates are slated for late May, and the work group said it will be strict about no-accommodation pickup: unclaimed kits will be donated.
Members also discussed coordinating outreach through city social channels and partner organizations, procuring signs from private vendors (the city sign shop lacks capacity), and making the educational packet publicly downloadable so residents who do not receive a kit can still access planting guidance. The commission offered to help amplify promotional posts and asked staff to share links so commissioners can re-post from personal accounts.
No formal vote was taken; the item was an informational update and staff will return with promotional materials and sign designs.
