Council approves Lift Station 85 resiliency work and continued pipe-lining after consent-order completion

Public Works presented resilience projects focused on downtown sewer infrastructure and the City Council approved them on June 5.
Claude Tangerzly, Public Works Administrator, explained that Lift Station 85 (serving downtown) has been using legacy facilities as emergency storage (~10 million gallons) and that the selected project will replace those older units with purpose-built emergency storage increasing capacity to ~12 million gallons. PCL Construction was selected to provide engineering and preconstruction services with initial costs of roughly $3.8 million; a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for construction will be returned to council for approval when available.
Council also approved an addendum to the existing pump replacement contract to increase bypass pumping capacity so the bypass can mimic full lift station capability during work. Staff outlined continuing cured-in-place pipe lining work that began under the consent order and will continue even after Suncoast Waterkeepers and DEP sign off; staff said only one final installation (the aqua-fence at Lift Station 85) remained before final certification.
Council asked about recent spill history and whether last year's hurricane response was evaluated; staff said DEP reviewed spills during the consent order and indicated requirements were satisfied. Council approved the package of resilience items and will receive future GMPs for construction work.
