Council approves additional Tropicana Field remediation and construction security; cumulative costs approach $38.5M

City Development staff updated council on ongoing remediation and repair needs at Tropicana Field and asked for approval of several related contracts; council approved the items by roll call on June 5.
Beth Herondine summarized work performed by BMS CAT (removal of damaged ceiling tiles and daily containment and monitoring since October) and proposed an extension of that contract through December 2025 to maintain containment until roof replacement and full dry-in. The extension includes purchasing roughly 5,000 ceiling tiles, expanded drainage work and continued tarping and containment to protect conditioned spaces during remediation.
Staff also presented a security-services agreement to maintain site control during the construction period; administration said the city is assuming site control for construction and will retain a national crowd-management security firm for continuity, expertise with stadium systems and camera/alarm familiarity. The contract covers security through February 2026 during major construction.
An attendee, Lafayette Leroy, expressed frustration with work pace and urged use of local labor and alternatives to moving tenant games to Tampa. Council noted cumulative prior approvals of roughly $33.2 million and said approving the four items would raise total committed spending to about $38.5 million; earlier full repair estimates had been approximately $56 million.
Action taken: motion to approve Tropicana Field related items (F1, F2, F3 and F8) carried by roll call.
