Council Member Schafer emphasized the need to move quickly on stalled priorities and asked councilors to bring concrete ideas to the workshop. Staff said they have collated outstanding council requests into a color-coded list organized by department and offered to accept items in advance to help structure the session. "We have spent several meetings having conversations about future council agenda items that they would like to discuss," staff said, offering a prepared list to guide the workshop.
The council discussed scope and duration, with members suggesting a focused agenda (top three priorities) and staff warning that large initiatives such as Harb's dissolution or a law-enforcement transition could require substantial staff time. Council approved the workshop and scheduling by roll call.
Council and staff also discussed whether a pending Public Safety Commission consultant recommendation should be considered ahead of or at the workshop; the council directed staff to bring that decision to the Feb. 10 meeting or earlier as appropriate. The workshop is intended to result in a prioritized, realistic set of council goals that staff can implement or scope.
