Georgetown County council amends ATAX recommendations, reallocates funding for district safety and museum improvements

Miss Langston presented the committee's recommended allocations, reporting roughly $1,000,700 in state ATAX funds and about $46,000 in additional state funds available for distribution. Councilor Carolina moved to approve the recommendations and Councilor Johnson seconded.
Councilor Elliot then proposed an amendment that reallocated funding across multiple applicant IDs. He said the changes reflect district safety priorities and post–mill-closure economic adjustments. Among the changes he detailed were ID 1043 increased to $76,772; safety-initiative funding of $44,669 for District 1; $43,551 for museum improvements (ID 1058); $50,000 for market research (ID 1072); and a series of smaller reallocations and zeroed items for several City of Georgetown line items (including setting ID 1083 to zero). Councilor Elliot described the safety items as intended to protect tourists and reduce hazards in high-traffic areas.
After clerical checks to ensure the amended summary sheet was included in the packet, council voted on the amended main motion. The chair announced, "Motion carries," and the accommodation tax requests were amended in accordance with Councilor Elliot's motion.
The decision is administrative: council modified the committee's recommendations and approved the revised funding slate. The council did not provide a roll-call vote tally in the meeting record; the chair recorded the outcome verbally.
