Gardner mayor reports resignations, promotions and temporary appointments across departments

During the Jan. 28 appointments committee meeting, the mayor provided a series of personnel updates affecting multiple city departments.
The mayor said Veterans agent Chris Davis is no longer with the city and the assistant veterans director, Nikki LaBollette, has been promoted on a temporary basis to lead the Veterans Service Department while work continues on operations and transition planning. The mayor described LaBollette’s temporary appointment as a trial period during which the city will assess department needs.
In the building department, the mayor reported that alternate wiring inspector Sean Donacy resigned because the workload had become effectively full‑time while the regular electrical inspector, Daryl Sweeney, remains out. To avoid inspection delays, the mayor said the city has made interim 60‑day temporary appointments for Timothy Stott and Alan D'Antonio and is coordinating training under Commissioner McDonald.
In the police department, Detective Robert Allard retired; Detective Tony (Anthony) Webb has taken over detective duties and is training with Detective Coates, who is set to be promoted to sergeant on March 1 to fill an upcoming vacancy. The mayor said internal promotion interviews have been completed and that promotions will follow the city’s established process; staffing gaps are being addressed while the department fills specialty assignments.
Committee members acknowledged the retirements and praised staff transitions. The mayor said he is exploring a mutual‑aid arrangement with the town of Westminster for building inspection coverage in the longer term.
