A round‑up of community events and local sports announced on the Beaufort County bulletin: the University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) men’s and women’s basketball teams play Lander University on Saturday, Jan. 31, with the women tip‑off at 1:30 p.m. The broadcast said USCB’s softball team opens today in Reedville at the Valkyrie Classic, and that a planned baseball series with Davis & Elkins College was canceled; USCB’s baseball squad is next scheduled to play Tuesday in Hardeeville against Edward Waters.
Also this week, the 30th annual Hilton Head Island Gullah celebration runs Feb. 1–28, hosted by the Native Island Business and Community Affairs Association; a full event schedule is available at gullahcelebration.org.
