Superintendent told the board bids open Feb. 3 for a project to convert Sherman High School’s old library into classrooms (estimated 7–8 additional rooms); the board also recognized multiple retirees and praised maintenance crews for winter weather response.
The St. Bernard Parish School Board heard several administrative updates on Jan. 27, including a facilities project bid schedule and personnel recognitions.
Superintendent’s notes included the monthly budget-to-actual statements and praise for the maintenance crew’s work during recent cold weather that allowed schools to reopen without reported heating failures. The superintendent said the district plans to open bids on Feb. 3 for a renovation to convert the old Sherman High School library into classroom space. If the board receives a recommendation for the lowest responsible bidder, staff will convene a special meeting immediately before the Feb. 10 committee meeting at 5:30 p.m. to approve the award and expedite permitting and construction.
Staff said the renovation will add approximately seven to eight additional classrooms and some teacher workspace on the ninth-grade academy side. The board also recognized retirees including Cassandra Williams (educational diagnostician), Tammy Woodrow (teacher leader), Michelle Angrafia (Araby Elementary), Debbie Ruiz and Yvette Caluette for long service to the district.
No contract award was made at the Jan. 27 meeting; the board scheduled a special meeting only if bid results and recommendations require immediate action.
