The commission approved a contract with Peter Petersburg Tennis Academy to operate in-house tennis programming and provide instruction at Patriot's Park beginning Feb. 3, 2026. Staff acknowledged challenges balancing public court access, league play and lessons and said the county will typically leave courts available across scheduled programs: “So if we have our scheduled programs going, we'll have 3 courts open for public play, 3 courts open for lessons and clinics,” staff said.
The commission accepted multiple donations: to Animal Services (several donors totaling various amounts, including a $1,500 donation from Michael Haines), a $375 donation from Robert Shinkle to the Columbia County Community Center senior center, and a $2,000 donation from the Merchants Association of Columbia County for a youth-sports scholarship program that reduces registration costs.
Separately, the county approved a tournament-hosting agreement with Perfect Game Baseball for a series of 10 sanctioned youth tournaments; staff said two NIT showcase events are expected to draw overnight visitors and that the host fee is a one-time $5,000 paid from the FY26 hotel/motel fund.
