Chief Wallman told the commission the purchase is part of the department’s annual replacement rotation and that the equipment is a budgeted expense. He said the county will move retired units into training use rather than selling them.
“We move them to a training phase until they're completely destroyed, and we mostly keep them. We don't ever sell them off,” Wallman said.
The vendor named in the bid was American Safety and Firehoses and staff recommended approval; the motion to accept the bid was made and seconded and recorded as carried in the meeting.
Why it matters: SCBA are critical life-safety equipment for firefighters. Replacing aging units is a routine, safety-driven procurement that affects frontline emergency response capability.
