The Logansport Board of Works and Public Safety voted to hire DeVontay Booker as a probationary patrolman with the Logansport Police Department, effective Jan. 20, 2026.
Chief Heichman told the board he was submitting a letter requesting that the board offer the position to Booker, noting Booker is a 2019 graduate of Logansport High School and has been employed at the Indiana State Hospital. "Please accept this letter and request, to offer DeVontay Booker the position of probationary patrolman with the Logansport Police Department," Chief Heichman said. The board moved to approve the hire and recorded affirmative votes from Divya Jones, Chris Martin and Hansel.
Board members offered brief congratulations following the vote. The board arranged to swear in the new officer after the formal meeting; the ceremony took place immediately after adjournment, and family members were invited forward for photographs.
The hire adds one probationary officer to the department roster; the board did not discuss additional staffing details, salary, or training timeline during the meeting.
