Villa Park swears in three firefighter‑paramedics

Chief Stapleton introduced the candidates and described their backgrounds: Evan Swanson began emergency services work in 2018 and joined the Villa Park Fire Department in December 2024; William Shermer followed a career path that included paramedic work and training; and Steve Shemansky completed paramedic school in 2023 and had served ride‑time with Villa Park. Chief Stapleton said the group had shown “dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence” during their probationary service and encouraged them to continue learning.
During the ceremony family members pinned badges on the new firefighters. President Patrick administered the oath of office. The board and audience offered congratulations.
The swearing‑in follows the department’s recent recruiting and training efforts; the board acknowledged the hires as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety staffing. No formal board action was required beyond the ceremonial oath.
