At its Oct. 13 meeting, the Allegan City Council approved multiple routine contracts, permits and financial items.
Procurement and contracts: Council awarded PO26‑0837 to Wansy Tree Service for $34,145 for annual public tree trimming and removal after staff reported five bids with one incomplete. The purchase order passed by voice vote.
Legal assistance: The council approved a $2,500 contract with the Allegan County Legal Assistance Center to support civil legal services to county residents. Linda Teeter and board members described the center’s client mix (noting many City of Allegan clients fall into the ALICE income category) and said the contract would run to the end of the city fiscal year if approved; council voted in favor.
Social district and downtown permit: Council adopted Resolution 25.32 to approve a social district permit for Another Mother LLC to participate in the downtown social district. Owner Alex (in the audience) briefed council on construction progress and an expected timeline to opening.
Griswold reduced rate request: Kim Pullen requested a reduced rate for the Allegan County Heroes fundraiser. An initial motion to charge $200 per day (total $400) failed on a tied vote; council then adopted an amended motion charging $200 total for the two days.
Administrative and finance items: Council approved accounts payable of $638,893.86 and payroll of $255,331.23, totaling $894,225.09. Council also approved a lot‑combination application from PCI to merge two parcels to comply with zoning and building codes.
Code enforcement: Staff reported 74 blight letters issued May–Aug 2025 with 95.9% compliance, 289 long‑grass notices (23 abated by the city), and one vacant property moving toward demolition following environmental inspections.
These routine approvals were recorded by voice vote or consensus during the Oct. 13 meeting and will proceed under standard staff implementation procedures.
