The Allegan City Council on Oct. 13 adopted Ordinance 5‑31, restoring a section on fences that had been omitted during an earlier comprehensive zoning rewrite.
City staff explained the amendment during the ordinance’s second reading, saying it adds phrasing intended to prevent temporary fences from being treated as permanent and strikes a reference to retaining walls from subsection D to avoid confusion. Staff cited consultations with the zoning administrator, Laura Castello, in drafting the changes.
Mayor opened a public hearing and asked for comments; no members of the public came forward. Council moved and supported adoption of the ordinance and passed it by voice vote.
Council members said they had reviewed the changes in prior meetings and had no further questions at the second reading. The ordinance will be recorded in the city zoning code as amended.
The council moved quickly through the item after staff outlined the edits, and no formal amendments were offered during the Oct. 13 meeting.
