Whitley County Planning Commission elects 2026 officers, appoints BZA representatives

The Whitley County Planning Commission on Jan. 21 elected its officers for 2026 and filled seats on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) and a joint advisory board. Brent Emerick was elected president by roll call; Mark Johnson was elected vice president; and Joe Wolf was elected secretary.
The commission also nominated and approved Kim as the regular member to the BZA and Jack as the alternate member. Nathan, planning staff, explained eligibility for the BZA appointment and recommended naming an alternate to avoid ties when one of five members is absent or conflicted. "So it's important we have an alternate if we can," Nathan said.
A motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes carried in a roll-call vote. Most members voted 'Aye'; Brent Emmerich recorded an abstention and one Tim (recorded in the roll call as abstain) also abstained, as reflected in the meeting roll call.
The commission closed the election business and moved on to a scheduled review of the county comprehensive plan. Next procedural steps include staff follow-up on the BZA appointments and circulation of updated meeting materials.
