Middleton commission approves RFP for airport manager services pending attorney review

The City of Middleton Airport Commission voted on Jan. 8 to accept the draft request for proposals for airport manager services with the redline edits before the body, provided the city attorney and city administrator incorporate the changes and review the final document.

The chair moved to accept the RFP “as submitted tonight with the edits, in red and the recommendation of, some reorder of the subsections, all subject to city attorney and city administrator review,” and Commissioner Charles seconded. Commissioners agreed the revisions should not change substantive responsibilities, particularly the day‑to‑day management duties that the airport expects the manager to carry out. Commissioners also discussed contract length, with staff recommending an initial five‑year term and an option to extend an additional five years if no material issues arise.

Commissioners and staff said one goal of the edits is to reduce redundancy and to clarify duties such as outreach and development-related tasks that Commissioner Young proposed. The city will post the final RFP after attorney review; staff said they will share the final version with commissioners before posting.

The motion passed on a verbal aye vote recorded in the meeting; the formal outcome was approval of the RFP subject to the attorney/administrator edits.

What’s next: staff will incorporate the changes with the city attorney and administrator, finalize the RFP and post it for proposals. The commission also noted that the selected manager will undergo an annual performance review by the commission each December.
