Donnie Deacon of the DuBois County Highway Department asked the council on Jan. 22 to advertise for $400,000 in QECAT (local equipment rotation) funding to replace aging vehicles and equipment.
Deacon said the department will retire three dump trucks and an excavator (model year 2013) that have more than 250,000 miles or about 7,500 hours on the excavator. He reported limited resale value for the trucks but said the department expects some trade‑in or resale proceeds. Councilors and staff discussed whether anticipated future emissions‑control requirements for construction equipment could affect resale value and suggested aligning major purchases with budget planning when possible.
Council members supported the request and agreed by show of hands to advertise for the QECAT funds. Deacon also reviewed changes in community crossing grant awards from the state and said the county expects to receive less hot‑mix paving assistance this year, which affects local paving plans.
