Clawson swears in newly elected officials; outgoing members offer reflections

Newly elected Clawson officials were sworn in Nov. 17 as part of the council’s organizational meeting and the body formally received and filed the election canvass certified by the Oakland County Board of Canvassers.
The council approved receiving and filing the canvass on a roll call after a motion to that effect. Several outgoing council members spoke at length, thanking staff and volunteers and listing accomplishments during their terms — including sewer and water system repairs, downtown and public‑space upgrades, tree‑planting, and enhanced collaboration with the Clawson Public Schools. One outgoing member described the job as a "culmination" and thanked staff, family and residents for support.
During public comment before these items, resident George Bowman criticized the minutes of a prior special meeting and alleged the city’s $65 million bond would fall short by roughly $13 million because of inflation; that claim was made in public comment and was not resolved or addressed with supporting evidence during the meeting.
Officials concluded the meeting with additional thank‑you remarks and an adjournment vote. The clerk and administration will carry out ministerial follow‑ups such as posting documents and scheduling the application process for the vacant seat.
