The Murray City Planning Commission voted unanimously May 15 to approve a conditional use permit for an auto sales business, Gold Wheels, at 4205 South Commerce Drive, Unit 5.
Planner David Rogers described the 3.36-acre site on Murray’s north end, the unit’s floor plan and parking arrangement, and the city’s landscaping requirements. Staff noted most surrounding parcels are zoned MG and that, with six conditions, the proposed auto sales use complies with the Murray City Land Use Ordinance and the city’s general plan goals for the area. Staff recommended approval.
Commissioners questioned whether previously required landscaping had been implemented and who bears responsibility. David Rogers said the property owner — not a tenant — is responsible for landscaping, and that code enforcement will inspect and require compliance where past CUP conditions were not implemented. A commissioner said they hoped enforcement would follow through.
Applicant Mohammed Murad confirmed he had read the six conditions in the staff report and said he could comply. Chair Richards opened the public-comment period; no members of the public spoke. Commissioner Rogers moved to approve the six-condition CUP for Unit 5 and the motion was seconded and approved on a unanimous roll-call vote.
The approval allows auto sales at the Unit 5 tenant space subject to the six conditions in the staff report, and staff indicated code enforcement will monitor the required landscaping improvements.
