Mr. Glassberg, chair of the construction committee, briefed the Metuchen Board of Education on Jan. 27 about project timelines and remaining work at several district sites.
"February 17 is the expected completion at the Metuchen High School Field House," Glassberg said, adding that a temporary certificate of occupancy is anticipated at that time and that board offices would move Feb. 18. He said the week of Feb. 23 is the target for classrooms in the high school to be usable and that cafeterias and Moss School should be usable by mid-March, while noting some punch-list items and exterior plantings remain at Campbell and Edgar.
The committee discussed change orders and strategies to work with professionals to mitigate additional costs. Glassberg also said the committee is exploring ESIP projects and rooftop solar "as a way of funding additional needs" such as roof replacements omitted from the post-referendum budget.
Committee meetings are open to the public; the next construction committee meeting is scheduled for Feb. 23 in the Metuchen High School media center.
Announcements and student updates delivered later in the meeting included a PTO readathon (students logged 13,000 minutes in two days), upcoming Cupcake Wars on Feb. 6, SpringX on March 27 with a large volunteer sign-up, and a Rutgers Health mental-health workshop on Jan. 29. The district noted that, following a snow day, the last day of school is now Monday, June 22.
The meeting adjourned after routine motions were approved.
