The Building Zoning and Economic Development Committee approved resolution 25-0586 to purchase a ClearSpan salt-storage structure for the Aurora Municipal Airport. The contract price for the structure through Sourcewell is listed as $40,681.56, with associated concrete and site work bringing the not-to-exceed figure to $60,000.
Steve Andress said the airport's existing steel salt-storage structure has corroded to the point of needing either heavy repair or replacement. Staff compared an earlier repair quote of about $75,000 to the proposed replacement and said the new structure with concrete work should be substantially less. "We think we can get another structure a little bit bigger, for quite a bit less, including the concrete work," Andress said.
Staff explained the scope includes a new concrete slab and a three-sided pen using jersey barriers so salt will remain inside the pen and not contact structural steel. One informal concrete quote cited in the meeting was about $16,000; staff said purchasing is pursuing at least two additional informal bids before final authorization.
Alderman Juany Garza moved approval; the motion passed as recorded.
The resolution directs staff to proceed with procurement through Sourcewell and to finalize contracts and concrete work within the approved not-to-exceed amount. The airport division will oversee installation and integrate the structure into materials/equipment storage plans.
