Little River Chamber outlines Patriots Day festival, reef project and veterans fundraising

Joey Davidson, chairman of the Little River Chamber of Commerce, used the committee’s public input period to outline a Patriots Day festival planned for the weekend of Sept. 13 at River Landing in Little River.
Davidson described a parade route beginning at Mineola and proceeding to River Landing, a boat procession and an offshore artificial-reef drop. He said the event is a charity fundraiser to benefit veterans and first responders, with 100% of proceeds directed to those groups through a permanent fund governed by representatives of veterans and emergency services. The Chamber plans two $500 scholarships for county juniors and seniors (one on patriotism; one a design contest for the festival T-shirt), free business space for nonprofits and a schedule of events similar to other local festivals. Davidson said they have coordinated with police, fire, EMS and insurers for public-safety planning and that General John Wilkinson will speak at the memorial portion of the event.
The presentation drew brief comments and the chairman said the event information can be shared on the county website.
What happens next: Organizers will continue coordinating permits, safety planning and fundraising; the committee did not take formal action on the presentation during this meeting.
