Horry County Council on Jan. 20 handled several zoning ordinances in a sequence of public hearings, motions and voice votes.
• Deferred: Council voted to defer second reading and public hearing for "ordinance 100 and seventeen-twenty 25" (amendments to articles 2 and 3 of the county zoning ordinance pertaining to planned development districts) to the next meeting after a motion by Mr. Causey.
• Approved (second reading or votes recorded by voice): 'Ordinance 100 and eighteen-twenty 25' (agent Cecil Mims for Katie Levener) and Ordinance 119 (Kingston Engineering for Palmetto State Land Holdings) were moved, seconded and approved with no public opposition recorded. The 'Trailer Shark LLC' item proceeded after public comments and was carried on second reading. Several other items (including motions identified in the record as 120-3-2025, 120-4-2025, 125-20-25 B and M Properties of The Carolinas, and an item for Guadalupe Blanco et al.) were approved by voice vote.
• Failed: A first-reading motion to rezone PIN 31516020001 from Commercial Forest to Residential was moved but met vocal opposition; Mr. Causey stated he would vote against it and asked others to do the same. The motion failed with 'nays' recorded and the item did not pass.
• Advanced: First reading of ordinance 3-20-26 (rezoning a 2.93-acre portion of PIN 46211030099 from Highway Commercial to Multi Residential) was moved forward to second reading at the request of Mr. Servais and passed unanimously on first reading.
No executive session was held. The council read several memorial dedications and adjourned.
