College View principal and preschool teacher describe inclusive, play-based preschool day

At the Jan. 27 meeting College View Elementary principal Alan Mindren and preschool teacher Kim Hunter presented a “day in the life” of preschool students for the board and public.
Mindren described routines and structures intended to support social, emotional, cognitive and physical development for all learners, including students with disabilities. He said classroom activities emphasize warm adult greetings, circle time for community building, differentiated small‑group instruction, and supports such as visuals and adaptive seating to enable full participation. He also highlighted family-focused events ("play dates with purpose") such as literacy on the lawn, art stations and family craft nights designed to deepen school–family connections.
Several preschool students briefly answered trustees’ questions from the podium, naming snack time, recess and nap time among favorite parts of the day. Trustees and staff praised the presentation and the students’ on-stage contributions.
Next steps: trustees thanked College View staff and parents and encouraged continued family engagement and visibility of early‑learning programs; no formal action was required.
