Northborough open space committee endorses MassTrails feasibility study for BWALT

The Town of Northborough Open Space Committee voted to forward a support letter for a MassTrails grant to fund a feasibility study of a public-use trail following the former Boston–Worcester alignment. Chair (Speaker 1) introduced the item and said the draft letter supplied by the town planner had been reviewed and required no changes. “This meeting will not feature public comment,” the chair reminded participants as the item began.
The committee discussed that Westborough has recently renewed interest in a BWALT corridor and asked Northborough to join the effort. Staff reported coordinated work with the town planner and supplied a draft recommendation letter to MassTrails; members said the draft was acceptable. Leslie Harrison (Speaker 2) moved to forward the letter; the motion was seconded and the committee approved the measure by roll-call vote.
Members described the MassTrails feasibility grants as a step to test whether a trail alignment is practicable and to define next steps if it is. Staff said the grant covers initial feasibility work and is intended to move projects from concept toward implementation.
