Carbon County Fair set for May 30–June 1 with new schedule, concerts and family programming

Courtney Cox, a member of the Carbon County Fair Committee, told the commission the 2024 Carbon County Fair will run Thursday, May 30 through Saturday, June 1 and will shift from an end-of-summer event to a kickoff for the season.
Cox outlined a multi-day schedule that includes barrel racing and a tribute concert to Elton John and Billy Joel on Thursday evening, vendor booths and a first-responder showcase Friday, and a Saturday lineup featuring a 5K fun run, a motocross race, a car show and an expanded animal barn. "We're gonna start out Thursday kicking off the fair in the evening," Cox said, noting new family programming and efforts to make the fair more accessible to residents and vendors.
The committee is adding activities to replace a carnival midway that many companies no longer operate. Organizers said Kids' Corner will run 10 a.m.–2 p.m. and include games, inflatables and a climbing wall. Cox also announced the fair will host a burnout competition on Friday evening and a battle-of-the-bands in the park; the Desert Wings RC Air Club will do night flights at dusk Friday. "This year, the car-show registration fees are being donated for spays and neuters in the area," Cox said, describing local fundraising partnerships.
Cox said only the Due West concert and the motocross event will be ticketed; most fair activities will remain free. She encouraged vendors and participants to register at carbonutahfair.com and acknowledged major sponsors including I Got Poop and Emery Telcom.
The commission responded with general support and local commissioners praised the programing and band selections. Commissioner (Speaker 3) said he had seen Due West perform previously and recommended residents buy tickets.
Looking ahead, Cox said the committee hopes to keep the fair on the first weekend in June going forward and continue expanding vendor and entertainment offerings.
