Gadsden City Council on Jan. 27 approved a resolution authorizing change order No. 1 for Bid No. 3519 on the Gaston Sports Park Phase 4 project, adding $228,476.22 for final reconciliation of additions and deletions. The chair said the adjusted contract amount with Bob Smith Construction Company Incorporated is $4,465,439.97.
The motion to adopt the resolution carried by voice vote after brief discussion about next steps. Heath, a city staff member, confirmed this is the final change order for Phase 4 and that Phase 5 is being advertised for bids; he said Phase 5 was scheduled to bid that afternoon.
“Bob Smith Construction Company has done a good job for us over there. I appreciate what you've done to help move it along,” the chair said during discussion, praising the contractor’s work and the appearance of the park.
The resolution-authorizing vote was taken by the clerk and the chair announced the motion carried. The council did not identify funding sources in the discussion; staff did not provide a line-item funding breakdown during the meeting. The council did not propose any amendments to the change order on the floor.
Next steps: staff indicated Phase 5 bidding would proceed; no additional public hearings or council votes on Phase 4 were announced at the meeting.
