Steve Simonis of Westwood Professional Services, representing the owner, said the rezoning is a cleanup step after parcels and right‑of‑way were acquired and that site‑plan work is ongoing. Simonis said an extended‑stay WoodSpring Suites hotel is under contract and estimated the hotel construction at about $11 million with 20–25 permanent full‑time local jobs; he also described interest in a convenience/retail center across the highway.
The planning commission recommended approval by a 5‑1 vote; the board approved the rezoning by roll call, 7 ayes. With the rezoning completed, applicants may proceed with final site‑plan submissions and conditions required by the proffers and site review.
