County committee recommends New River Engineering to design shooting range; 1,000-yard request may not fit current contract

The committee — composed of Twig, Captain Moody and Dan Newton — said approximately nine or ten firms applied and that three firms were interviewed: New River Engineering, Potesta and Salem. "Any of the three probably would have done a very good job," the committee lead said, but the committee favored New River Engineering.
Commissioners asked whether a requested 1,000-yard range could be accommodated. Staff told the board that accommodating 1,000 yards would be tight and that design options might allow a maximum around 850 yards by moving the range to higher elevation; the 1,000-yard specification was not included in the current contract and would require further negotiation.
The commission directed staff to notify the recommended firm and obtain a timeline and additional details; no formal contract award was recorded in the meeting minutes.
