MSD urges Emigration Canyon to join FEMA training and tabletop exercises

During the MSD presentation, the presenter described FEMA training requirements and encouraged council participation, saying the training teaches terminology, protocol and the hierarchy of incident management. "It's a very important training that you have," the presenter said, urging members to attend FEMA G402 and related exercises.
MSD staff explained that emergency response is coordinated through UFA (Unified Fire Authority) and Salt Lake County’s Emergency Coordination Center; MSD said it ‘‘helps allocate resources’’ and supports local coordination but does not assume incident command. The presenter said UPD (county police) and other agencies have legal responsibilities for certain notifications and operational decisions.
Council members asked for practical exercises to understand how incidents would run in the canyon. Staff committed to work with Brian and Madison to schedule tabletop exercises specific to Emigration Canyon and listed an upcoming FEMA course (noted in the meeting packet) scheduled March 28, 09:30–13:00 as an example of available training.
What’s next: Staff will follow up with scheduling a canyon‑specific tabletop exercise and provide materials and training times to council members.
